Hi, first of all I'm not good in writing down German, but I can read German very well, so all the answers can be written down in German.

I know its is limited to overclock a Dell, but does anyone know how to increase the CPU voltage to overclock my Dell Dimension E521. Use now Clockgen and Central Brain Identifier, but I see no ways to increase the CPU voltage. I'm a little bit afraid off using the Voltmod as explained on this forum, so I'm want to go for Software.

Dell is now upgraded to a AMD 64 X2 6400+ CPU
North BridgeNVIDIA GeForce 6150 Revisie A2
South BridgeNVIDIA nForce 410/430 MCP Revisie A2

Did a try but Nvidia Ntune and AMD Overdrive software are not working.
Thanks Toine

Increasing CPU Voltage will probably result in higher temps without getting much more out of this kind of CPU.

The 6400+ runs nearly the limit of the K8 architecture, so it is one of the worst cases in AMD OC;).

Stay at 3200 MHz because even with higher Vcore there might be only 200 Mhz more, with a little luck you may get 300.

Tried Rmclock or Crystalcpu yet?

No I'm using clockgen and CBI. RMclock is only for lowering the voltage not for increasing as I can remember.
Did downloaded CrystalCPUID, just like in CBI I can not go higher that 1.45Volt, so it appears to me that somewhere the Dell mobo does limited the core voltage to max. 1.45V.

BTW: strange that the moderator changes this topic to English forum, because I can NOT WRITE GERMAN, BUT I CAN READ GERMAN VERY WELL, so replies in German are always welcome.

You're probably right, 1,45v might be the limit of the dell mainboard.

How far goes the CPU for now?

Just try it with the stock vcore.  You have to change the ref. clock generator....set it for e.g. to 220 and you will see if it works. A good tool for testing the stability is Sp2004 (Prime 95).

one opportunity is to go to the workshop.
"pinmod anleitung"
there you can increase the voltage up to 1,55v
with one wire

try this first

Yes, this Socket AM2 pinmod guide pinmod should work fine with your processor.
Dell overclocking seem to be very interesting for several users, so Toine3 did you already get higher overclocking results of your Dell Dimension E521?

Sorry for the late reply, but right now it seems that the Dell dimension E521 mobo is limited in Watt, so increasing a few watts will give you directly a crash in CPU stress testing. Higher Voltage and higher FSB will bring here nothing.
I did even try to find the optimum in lowering the multiplier & increasing the FSB and with lowering the voltage I was trying to keep the Watt below max limit, but still then only a few extra Ghz profit, before crashing.
For testing I have used Orthos and OCCT.  No way to do a decent OC on this Dell.

as an additition, tools like rmclock are working with the VID of the cpu. so the maximum is given by the cpu.

for example an intel core2 e6600 with VID of 1,3225v limits the tool to this voltage. normally the maximum VID is the normal vcore, so you are right to say, these tools are only for lowering vcore.

probably, this is not a problem of your mainboard, like spraadhans said, the 6400+ runs by default near the k8 limits.

so, most likely, the problem is the whole combo. a dell mainboard (and maybe a narrowed power supply) plus the 6400+.

And if it's limited by the voltage regulators, you should try to optimize the cooling (... of course you should always optimize it, particularly when you're increasing the voltages).
On the other hand, the maximum voltage could be also limited by the power supply, did you already test it with another PSU?
