AMD Athlon XP

My idea is buying a Thermaltake volcano 7+ (Entire copper heatsing with thin fins), and whith this, I think i will reach better overclocking than using any palomino core (even aroia or agoia).

The thoroughbred 2200+ runs at a default voltage of 1,65 while all palominos does this at 1,75.

As i say, i think that using a copper heatsink capable of absorb the heat from core from himself, i will get more mhz with a tbred than with a aroia-y

Hi, I've just tried your KT7_RAID mod!! I've bought an XP1800+ and added the multiplier(mainboard) modification according to your info. I use and 100ohm resistor instead of 180ohm->works fine.
The CPU is now running happy at 110x(8,5+8)@1,88v=1826Mhz!!

THANX FOR YOUR INFO!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

@pzed22

Can I use your MOD with my KT7A-Raid and 1700+ T-Bred ?

@karabulo

I've got an 1700+ Tbred B working perfectctly on my Abit KT7 Raid, and before it I had a 1800+ Tbred A, and they work perfectly. So the chip will work on your board if the bios support it.

The question of the multi-mod.... I've not test in a KT133A chipset, but I think it must work in any chipset, becouse the mod work on the processor, not in the board. I tried the multi-mod on a thunderbird, and didn't word with my board.

Here are the results with the mod on my KT7A rev1.0

only following multis are working ....

9 -> 17

12,5 -> 20

hi, I would like to put an XP in my old Asus A7V.
what are the problems I can get?
Lose my MB?
Lose my CPU?
can somebody make a picture of his mod? (at the back of MB) to see what it should look like :p
and just to be sure: I don't especially need a palomino core? a Thoroughbred will do the job as well?

Thank you all for the inspiration you'll gave me!!

The problems you could get is trouble unlocking the CPU and soldering the wrong pins and causing a short.

Of course, you should verify that your CPU has been unlocked successfully before beginning.

It's unlikely you'd loose your motherboard, unless you solder the wrong pins.
You can break your CPU if you don't insulate the pits between L1's. But this is an unlocking issue.

I don't have a digital camera, maybe someone else here can take a photo if they've done the mod.?

As for the core, Palomino and Thoroughbred should work just fine. Their BP_FID pins are compatible, so it works with both, BUT the multipliers you get are different. For example, Palominos only have "... ,16.5,17,18,20.5" but some new thoroughbreds have other numbers (you'd have to google for them, I don't remember). Either way, you should find a multiplier that's close enough to what you want.

karabulo: A 1700+ at 2GHz is amazing, I'm jealous now :) If you can't get other multiplers, it probably means some L1s didn't unlock properly.

Mistake!

I said Palomino & thoroughbred will both work the same, but now some more detail:

XP1500 to XP2000: This resistor mod works fine.
XP2100 and above: These CPUs have AJ27 already ON by default. If you don't mod. the board, you should get >12.5x already. You might still want to install the switch, but connect it to GROUND (Vss) instead of Vcc. This is essential if you have cold-boot problems like me (you switch it ON to get <12.5x if you can't boot).

Here is a neat trick to get your FSB to 133:

Cut the 4th L3 Bridge, and make sure you cut it a little too deep. Now paint the bridge again. This grounds the 4th Bridge to the CPU, and allows the 133 FSB to work. I did it with my KT7E, which doesn't even officailly support 133FSB. Side effect: It reduces all your multipliers down 4X, but you can now paint the 5th L3 bridge and it will work with higher multipliers.
