AMD Athlon XP

40°C mit 1.80 Volt

I'm new to overclocking...never even touched the stuff in bios or done crazy stuff such as messing with the bridges.  Anyway...I recently bought an Athlon XP 2800+ Barton Core.  I've heard some people get it up to a 2.53-.56.  Is this possible on air?

Now, if it is...can anyone tell me what a safe voltage is before I fry anything?  And is it better to raise fsb or multipliers?

I was looking at the pin mod guide thing, and was going to go for a 190 fsb, and 13.5 multiplier.  Assuming that the processor is able to withstand that and also that it is also unlocked.

Thanks in advance.

whats the production week of ur cpu and which cooler u have on it?

why such a high multiplier and a low fsb?
Fsb is far more important for a good system performance then anything else

I'm not sure which week it is...I'm not sure how I can tell either...it was just the oem..not retail.
The hsf i'm using is a Thermaltake Volcano 12 Extreme.

I heard that the higher multiplier was better, but fsb is equally important.  I'm assuming that 190 isnt sufficient?

tell us which motherboard dou you have and the week of the cpu (black label on the cpu) like 0345 or like this.

the memory is also important write also the manufacturer & speed.

190fsb is not bad but still low. a few crazy ppl are workin' to get 300fsb on socket A :)

i'm one of this but my new mobo is still on the way :/

I'll have to try to get the hsf off the processor and such to figure out what week it is.

Edit:

The processor says a number like this: AQYHA 0351 SPMW

Tell me if this is it.

I think i got something somewhat stable...but, unsure.  I was able to mess around in the bios, and I got a 195 fsb... (I don't wanna go up higher due to possible stability issues), and some really really high multiplier.  Long story short, vcore is at 1.75, fsb is decent, and I'm hitting 2.44 ghz.

lower the multiplier and just check out how far you get with the fsb.
the ram should be able to do 215 at least without a higher Vram.

I had some weird problem.  I dunno if it was the processor or the motherboard, but it wouldn't let me get to 200.  I would attempt to, and it'll just go back down to 133, therefore dropping my speed to like 1.25ghz.  I wasn't pleased.  I shall continue messing with it.  Anyone still know a good voltage to run it at?  I think I lowered it back down to 1.7.

Do u have jumpers on the board, where you can set the FSB?
On some boards are jumpers to set the FSB to 133,166,200.
Maybe in your case too.
Greetings

Actually, the motherboard I'm using is a Shuttle nForce 2 Ultra 400 + MCP.  (AN35N)   All the overclocking settings are done via bios.  There's an option to go to "expert" settings, in which it lets me choose the FSB, ie 195, 196, etc.   Either way, the motherboard specs limit it at 200 (400).  I'm guessing I should also get another power supply as well?  It's only 450W.

So, here's what I currently use.
Shuttle nForce 2 Ultra 400
Kingston Hyper X PC-3500 (DDR433/512) x1
AMD Athlon XP 2800+
Volcano 12 Extreme (No Arctic Silver)
Seagate 120 gig (111/8mb)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
eVGA nVidia GeForce FX 5200

That's pretty much it for main hardware.

I'm going to be investing in a better psu, a new cpu (Probably a Mobile proc), another stick of ram for dual channel, and perhaps some arctic silver.

Isn't your CPU good enough for you? (ok, from oc point of view it isn't)

Before giving more than 100? for a new CPU you should replace your graphic card. A 5200 sucks. You better think about buying a 9800pro, a 5900xt or better.

Also the thermally conductive paste isn't that import. Once I tested the AS3 with the standard one I got with my Thermalright and the one I got with my old Titan TTC-CUV2. The Thermalright stuff was lacking 2 °C, but the Titan one was at the same level as the Arctic Silver. So don't care to much about this.

Extra Ram won't hurt.

The PSU should have enough reserves, but if you watch the voltages and tell us the values we might give  you a suggestion wether to replace or not.
