This is my computer set up (everything is stock):

-AthlonXp 2600+ with Zalman 5700AlCu
-Asus A7V600 (VIA KT600)
-1x512mb + 1x1gb Patriot RAM
-Geforce 7600gs
-ATA disk Western Digital 160gb (has windows on it)
-SATA disk Seagate Barracuda 160GB (used for swap partition and to
store data)
-DVD RW NEC AD-7203S SATA
-wireless card
-60mm vent on the back of the chasis
-LC Power 550W
-Win Vista Ultimate
------------------------------
Just recently I bought a new DVD burner NEC AD-7203S SATA.
The problem is, that it's VERY slow. When reading video files from DVD's, the sound and picture stutters, and it needs more than 2 minutes to copy a 300mb file to the hard drive. Burning DVD's is also slow, but without errors.
Another thing. When I first connected my new DVD drive, windows would crash with a blue screen, each time I put a disc in the drive. Then I deleted the SATA drivers for my motherboard, installed the most recent ones and I also updated the firmware for my DVD drive. Now everything works normal, except the DVD drive is very slow.
Do you think my motherboard is maybe too old and it just sucks at handling SATA drives? Or maybe LC power supply is unstable, with all the hardware?
